Picking Up The Pieces: Part 6

Disclaimer: None of the charactars belong to me, they belong to Marvel. All right so right now I have NO idea who is all in the X-MEN, so I'm ignoring all that right now. Gambit is gone and Marrow's here. Nuff said.

It was some time around six when they pulled up to the mansion. Jubilee looked out questionably at the mansion. Logan stepped out of the car and looked at the small girl who had yet to unbuckle her seat belt. He lent back into the car. "You coming?" He quipped. Jubilee turned and scowled at him. She undid her seat belt and stepped out. Logan busied himself with the bags and Jubilee sat back and watched him. She cracked a small grin when he stumbled and almost fell. He righted himself and he walked across the lawn. Jubilee followed him walking slowly behind.

She opened the door for him and he walked in. She followed and stood by the doorway looking around. He put her bags down by the stairs. "Logan!" Rogue yelled and trotted down the stairs. "Why didn't you tell us you were goin' to be here so soon?" She asked wrapping him in a bear hug. Jubilee looked at the southern woman trying to blend into the back ground. Rogue spotted Jubilee and her smile faltered for a moment. "Jubilee? My Gawd you look different. All grown up almost." Rogue gasped. Jubilee smiled and walked over to her.

"Thanks. Its nice to meet you, well sort of." Jubilee stuck out her hand to shake Rogue's ungloved hand. Logan grabbed her wrist roughly and she gasped. "What are you doing fur ball?" She hissed.

"You can't touch me. My powers will drain anyone that I touch." Rogue explained.

"Can't you just turn them off?" Jubilee asked confused.

Rogue shook her head. "No. They're on all the time. I can't touch anyone." She said and Jubilee heard how unconfortable she was. She nodded letting the subject drop. Logan put his hand on her elbow gently.

"We have to go see Hank now, for her physical." Logan explained as he led Jubilee away. The young girl didn't look too happy about that. "We'll see you later." Logan smiled as he walked away.

Logan opened the door to the med lab and Hank was hunched over a table. "Hank!" Logan exclaimed happily. The man sat upright startled and turned around. The large man was covered in blue fur. Jubilee wasn't disturbed by this, in fact she had to stop herself from giggling. There was something about seeing him in glasses and a white doctor's coat. Hank grinned from ear to ear when he saw the two.

"Jubilee! Logan!" He stood up and walked over to them. "I am surprised that you two have arrived so early." He cupped Jubilee's hands in his own. "It does my heart good to see you here Jubilation. Words can not express my elation." Jubilee looked over to Logan.

"Is that a good thing?" She asked. Hank laughed and Jubilee threw Logan a look.

"You said you wanted to run some tests on her?" Logan asked. Hank nodded.

"That would be the safest pretenses." Hank told him. Jubilee walked over to the examining table and hoped up on it. She rolled up one of her sleeves on her arm. "It appears as if the young lady is ready. It shouldn't take long, why not see the rest of the team." Hank suggested. He walked over to Jubilee who was already holding out her arm.

"You going to be all right?" Logan asked walking to the door. She glanced up at Hank and shrugged.

"Why not? At least with all that fur he doesn't have cold hands. That's an added bonus." She said and grinned at Hank. Logan shook his head.

"Behave." He warned.

"I will." Jubilee and Hank said at the same time.

Two hours later Hank escorted Jubilee to the living room where the X-MEN were. She sulked behind him and sat on the arm of Logan's seat not looking at the others. Hank stood by the door and waited for a moment to get everyone's attention. Jubilee muttered something under her breath so only Logan could hear. He lent over and whispered something in her ear. She sat up straight looking purposeful at Hank and offhandedly kicked him in the leg.

"She's going to be fine. I see no reason as to why she should not get her memory back." Hank started. "The reason for the memory loss appears to be of the severe trauma to her brain. Presumably to the mindscan devise that they used. There is also other trauma to her body, her heart had to take up much of the strain. That also will heal given time and medication. Her powers are a trickier matter." He paused. "Jubilee is a very powerful mutant and right now her body is too weak to handle her powers. They should return but her body must heal first. If not then her heart very well could give out." Hank stopped.

"When she accidently blasted me she immediately went into one of her episodes." Logan said. Hank nodded.

"Exactly. In a way her own body has shut off her powers to save itself. I believe when she is healed they will return." Hank finished.

"So that's that." She sighed. She turned to Logan. "So what happened to my bags?" She asked him.

"I put them in your room." Rogue told her. Jubilee nodded her thanks.

"Maybe later you can show me where that is?" She asked Logan.

"Do you know our names?" Jean asked from across the room. Jubilee looked over to the red head acknowledging the rest of the room.

"That's Logan." She pointed. "Hank, Rogue, your Jean, Bishop, um. That's it, I forgot the rest." She said.

"This is my husaband Scot. This is Physloch, Marrow, Warren, Bobby, and Sam." Jean finished pointing each one out. Jubilee waved.

"And my name is Cassandra." She told them. "Or you can call me Cassie or Jubilee. Whichever. No Jubes, J., or Jubie, or whatever else you can twist the name into." She explained.

"That's fine. We'll be having dinner in an hour. Would you like to go see your room?" Jean asked. Jubilee stood up and glanced at Logan who showed no sign of following. She rolled her eyes.

"Sure." She followed Jean out of the room. She followed the red head upstairs and watched her carefully. "Your really happy to have me back aren't you?" Jubilee asked amused.

"Of course I am. For the longest time you lived her and you filled a part of our lives. Its been hard to have you away at school." She stopped. "It was much harder to have you away." She said quietly. They reached the door and they walked in. The room wasn't what she was expecting. She opened a dresser drawer and looked at the brightly colored mismatch of cloths. She shut it frowning. "Is something wrong?" Jean asked.

"Its just not my style. I like the color white. Not this." She said picking up a bright yellow trechcoat from the bed. She tossed it aside next to the stuffed animals. She picked up a cowboy hat on the night table. "Logan's?" She asked. Jean nodded. She put it back and turned to her. "Um, thanks for showing me up." She said awkwardly. Jean smiled.

"It was my pleasure." She hugged Jubilee and she tensed up for a moment unsure what to do. Then she put her arms aorund her and hugged back. The red head let go of her and looked down at her with tears in her eyes. "Thank-you. Jubilee it is just so wonderful to have you back home." She kissed Jubilee on the forehead and walked out. She sighed and looked around her room.

"I have just stepped into the Twilight Zone." She muttered. Jubilee walked over to the desk and looked through the drawers. She pulled out a diary and sat down an the floor. Crossing her legs she opened the first page. "Dear Diary." She read.

An hour later when Logan came in he found Jubilee rooted in the same spot. He recognized the diary and had to call her name a few times before she looked up. "Huh?" She muttered not putting it down.

"Time for dinner." He told her. She frowned and he knew what was coming.

"Not hungry." She muttered looking at the diary again. He stalked across the room.

"It doesn't matter, that's not the point." He told her but she didn't look up. She finally put the book down and stared up at him wide eyed.

"I didn't know you used to have a metal skeleton. How come you didn't tell me that?" She demanded. Logan sighed wearily. She waved at him. "Go, go! I want to rad this." She told him. Logan had figured the only way he could get her down stairs was to drag her and he didn't want to do that. He left and shut the door behind him, she didn't even notice.

It was now about ten o'clock and Jubilee of course was still up. She had systematically gone through every peice in her room. She had read the diary and had read two more. She had read every letter and note that was in the room. She had looked at scrap books. She had gone through all the photos that were in her room. She had gone through the closet and the drawers. She was examining a tube of day glow yellow llip stick when Logan knocked on her door.

She looked up to see Logan and Jean walk in. "You hungry yet?" Logan asked holding a tray of food. She eyed it and shrugged.

"Kind of." She said. She walked over to them careful not to walk on the things she had laid on the floor. Logan sat down on a patch of clear carpet and they followed him. He put the tray down and Jubilee picked at it. "Thanks." She mumbled around a mouthful of food.

"Well we figured that you might actually be hungry after all." Jean told her.

Jubilee looked around the room. "Yeah, I've just been busy. Going through every single thing hoping something will fit. It didn't of course but at least things are a bit clearer." She stopped and frowned. "For the most part."

"What do you mean?" Jean asked.

"I was in Cali when some of those passages in the diary were written. How did that happen?" She asked.

"Well. It's a bit hard to explain." Logan told her. "You read about how you were taken, with Bastion?" He asked. Jubilee nodded. "Bastion made a clone of you and he sent the clone out to be you. So you could come back here and kill us if things didnt work the way he planed." Logan explained. "The thing is that even she believed she was you. She even wrote in her diary but eventually things began to filter through. She broke down and tried to kill us. In the end she killed herself because of her faliure. She was just an advanced version of a drone, nothing more."

Jubilee looked at him for a few moments then blinked. "Why is it when I talk to you I always get the worst headaches?" She asked sarcastically. She looked over to the diary. "I guess. I mean in the end she really didn't write that much and when she did it was strained. The thing that has me puzzled is if Daria didn't rescue me like it said in the diary, then how did I get away?" She asked.

Logan shook his head. "I don't know darlin'. Maybe when your ready you'll tell us." Shrugging she grabbed a fork and began eating. Occasionaly Logan would pick something off her plate.

She only at half of her food and she walked over to her bed. Pictures were laid out all over it. She stared at them frowning. "My parents are dead and I can't remember them. Of all the things for me to remember..." She trailed off.

"You remember something?" Jean asked.

"I remember Bastion. I remembering him hurting me." She said darkly. She spread her arms wide. "Out of all of this that's all I can remember." She paused staring at a picture. "It's all I feel." She stood up walked back to where the others were sitting. She sat cross legged on the floor. "I think I'm going to clean up and go to bed." She yawned. "Racking my brain is actually making me tired." She told them.

Jean stood up picking u pthe tray. She leaned over Jubilee and kissed her on the forehead. "Don't try too hard. It'll come, just don't force it." She told her. Jubilee nodded and Jean left the room. Logan sat in the same spot.

"What happens now?" Jubilee asked him silently just glad it was the two of them. Logan paused thoughtfully.

"Well right now your staying here. They pulled you out of the school. We don't think it would be a good idea if you go back to stay." He told her.

"Forever?" She asked.

"Looks that way now. I don't know, if you get your memory back and you really want to go..."

Jubilee shrugged and yawned again. "Whatever. I just got here, I'm in no big hurry to leave." She told him. She yawned again and Logan stood up.

"Sleep tight Jubilee. If you need me I'm just down the hall." He told her. Jubilee nodded and told him good night. Logan left and she began to put things back.

The room straightened up quickly and she unpacked the rest of her things. She threw the cloths in her closet out and pilled them in the corner to make room. Jubilee looked at hte clock on her night table. Her eyes fell on Logan's hat.

<She was in bed asleep she heard the click of her door and she woke up. She kept her eyes closed feigning sleep. She heard footsteps walking over to her bed. They stopped and she didn't hear anything for a while. A soft ruffling sound filled her ears, paper? She didn't open her eyes, she just focused on her shallow breathig. A rough hand touched her forehad gently smoothing back her hair. She heard him bend down over him. He kissed her softly on the cheek. She still felt the tingling of his rough stubble as she heard his footsteps to the door. She heard the door open and close once again. Still she waited a good many minutes until she opened her eyes.

She opened her eyes and found she was alone. She turned in bed and saw her night table. Logan's cowboy hat rested there nestled in her stuffed animals and Mickey Mouse clock. In front of it was a note with her name scrawled in big letters.>

Jubilee blinked in surprised and picked up the hat. "That's the night he left after that adamantium thing." She muttered remembering the entry in her diary. She laughed. "A memory. I remember soemthing other than Bastion." She fingered the hat. She thought about going to tell Logan about it but decided against it. "I'll tell him in the moring." She muttered putting the hat on the bed. She looked over to the desk thoughtfully then walked over to it. She took out her diary and a pen. Sitting on the bed she turned to the next open page. She wrote the date then stared at the blank page unsure what to do next. Then she began to write everything happened to her in the past months.

Dear Diary,

My name is Jubilee but for the past couple of months I've been calling myself Cassadra Reed. The first thing I remember was wandering around L.A. I have no idea how I got there but maybe one day I will. I hope so. I was really sick and hurt. Most importantly I had no idea who I was. One day I ran into this girl Teressa in a store...

She quickly filled up the pages. The sun rose spilling golden sunlight through her window. She yawned and tucked the diary under her pillow. She laid back in bed too tired now to change into her nightgown. Deciding to leave everything else for elater she closed her eyes. As Jubilee fell asleep some of the X-MEN awoke ready to start the day. Later that day Gen X would stop by to see their friend and she would meet the rest of the X-MEN properly. But for now Jubilee slept safe in her own bed and that was all that mattered.
