Promises: Part 1

The story is rated R. The first paragraph is a bit of dialogue from Wolverine 90. The charactars are Marvels, the rest is mine.

"Ya' know boy--it surely ain't enough just to rip ya until ya dies! No, boy--After I kills ya and hangs ya out to dry, I'm gonna go after all them frails ya been sweet on! Ha! I'm gonna rip 'em just for grins! Gonna start with that uppity Jean Grey! Then maybe I'll mosey up to Canada and do that Heather Hudson! I really can't wait 'till I gets to rip up them young ones, like Kitty Pryde and Jubilee--"

Sabretooth's voice was easily heard over the pain and the sound of his claws tearing into Logan's face. That voice was threatening to take away everything Logan loved, everything he was. Then Sabretooth had said Jubilee's name. Logan saw her crumpled little body covered in blood and he lost it. He had to protect her. He had to protect them all. Sabretooth had to be stoped. It was the only way they would be safe. Then Logan had did it, he had tried to kill Creed. He had tried to save them. He had failed. Creed was alive and out there somewhere. And there wasn't anything he could do about it.

Everyone was at New York for the day except for the four of them. Jubilee simply hadn't felt like dealing with it. Paige had basically barricaded herself in her room with arm fulls of books. Penance, Leach, and Artie had not gone for the same obvious reason. Penance opted for sleeping in the biosphere, Artie and Leach were disturbing her. So Jubilee had volenteered for taking them for a walk outside on the campus.

It was a perfect summer's day outside and Jubilee wondered how Paigecould be stuck in her room. Jubilee fastened her pace to keep up with the two children that were a couple yards in front of her. She watched after them with a gaze of a nervous mother. She frowned at the though and quickly changed it to protective older sister. She wore a white summer dress that came down a little above her knees and had on white high tops. Her black hair that came down to her shoulders was pulled up in a bun. Her sharp blue eyes were not a child's eyes. They held hidden knowledge, power, and a wisdom beyond her thirteen years.

Her eyes scanned the treeline unasumming. Her body looked at ease but trained eyes saw that she was anything but. The bird song had stopped. It had happened suddenly and Jubilee did not know what had caused it. She just knew it was a bad sign. In a few quick strides she was behind the kids. She stooped down and put a hand on each of their shoulders.

"All right. That's enough for today. Why don't we head back." She said gently. She saw them getting ready to argue. "We've been out long enough. Any way Paige has candy stashed in her room. You two ask if you can have some." The arguement was over. Jubilee began to stand up, she heard a growling sound behind her. "Race ya'!" She declared quickly. The two shot off for the school. Jubilee spun around. She couldn't let the children be hurt. Hold him off until they're inside. Paige will have to see there is an intruder and set up the alarms. She'll call for help. They'll be all right. Stall him!!

"I know who you are. You might as well come out." Jubilee said after a time. She was surprised her voice wasn't shaking. Sabretooth stepphed out of the bushes. He was leering at her, his fangs evident. His blond hair that lay partly in his face was blowing in the wind. His blue eyes glittered with insanity. He was in costume and his mutant ability was ready for the show. His hands were in front of him. Sabretooth wanted her to see his claws. The tall mutant dwarfed Jubilee, she didn't even come close to his shoulders.

"Think ya' smart frail?" He growled.

"No, just lucky." He laughed.

"Ya' not gonna' think ya' lucky in a minute." He told her. He lunged at her, not waiting for a reply. She fired a blast and it hit him on the chest. He flew backwards. Before he could get up she brought her hands over her head and let loose her powers. Paige ought to have seen that, heck the X-MEN should have seen that. She looked down to see Sabretooth getting up and she blasted him agian. He fell back but didn't stay down. He ignored the pain and got his momentum going before he even hit the ground. He lunged at her and this time made the conection. He tackled her and they fell to the ground. Jubilee moved her hands up to blast him but he caught her hands. He held her wrists easily with one hand. She was struggling agianst him but it wasn't doing any good. Sabretooth was over twice her size and invariably stronger. He wasn't giving her any more leeway either.

Sabretooth laid on top of her. He was giving himself a moment for his wounds to nit. Jubilee smelt the heavy smell of sweat, burnt felsh and hair. Sabretooth rested his head on Jubilee's shoulder.

"Pretty good trick. Ya' got a warning to the others. That frail can't save ya' and no one else is here cept those kids. Even if the X-MEN are on their way right now, they won't make it in time. Your mine." He growled in her neak. It sent a sickening shiver through her body. "Ya' even got in a few good hits. Didn't save ya' though." He said raising his head exposing a wide smile. "Too bad I can't see that little runt's face when he sees ya'." His smile widened and he bent down to her face. His breath was hot against her cheek. His tongue flicked out over his lips and he ran it up her cheek. She flinched and struggled against him. He laughed. "What don't ya' like it? Don't tell me ya' spent all that time with Logan and he didn't lay a hand on ya'" He joked.

His claws bit into her wrist drawing blood. She bit her lip to stiffle the cry. He raked his claws down her wrists and the blood fell down her arms. He moved up a bit and lent his head over her wrists. He licked the streaks of blood on her arms. His tongue moved upwards towards the wounds themselves. He traced his tongue along the lines that his claws had made. He lapped hungrily at the blood, moving his tongue over and around the wounds. In between he would kiss it and suck at it.

Jubilee couldn't stand it any longer. If she was going to die then dammit, why didn't he just kill her. Why this? Sabretooth had relieved some of the weight that laid across her. There was a slight distance between them as he leaned over her. One of his hands held her wrists and the other stroked her hip. Jubilee raised her head and bit down on his neak. There was no way she could have clamped down on his jugular. She had just wanted to stun him so she could get away or anger him so he would kill her. He didn niether. He moaned in pleasure as she sunk in her teeth in his flesh. He tightened the grip on her waist drawing more blood. His lips kissed the base of her wrist. Jubilee bit harder and he moaned louder.

Jubilee's mouth flooded with the copper taste of blood. She let go of his neak, it wasn't producing the results she had hoped for. She turned her head and spit the blood out. It smeared across her lips. Jubilee gasped for breath. Sabretooth pressed against her fully agian. Jubilee was struggling again, even though she knew it was hopeless. She stopped abruptly when she felt something hard press against her. She knew what it was and her stomach heaved. For the first time she felt her sanity leave her. She was thirteen! She was only thirteen! She had never been kissed before! She was a virgin! And her first time was going to be by a psychopath who raped her just before her killed her! A strangled sob rose from her.

Sabretooth pressed his midsection against her. "Wonder what Logan's gonna' do when he finds ya'? Too bad he's not here to protect ya' frail. Not that it would do any good. Wouldn't stop me. I'd let em' watch as he dies beside ya'." He laughed coursly and pressed his mouth against hers. After a while he drew his mouth away from hers.

If Logan were here he'd save me. And I know that he'll do when he sees me. He'll come after your crazy loser hide and nail it to the wall. He's gonna' make you suffer in ways you never dreamt of. He'll avenge me because he loves me. He'll stop you because he has to and he'll never stop. Your dead Creed. He's never going to let you live now. He's always gotten the upper hand because he's better! Better than the no account psychopath pullin' wings off a butterfly! Better than you in each and every way! He'll never stop! No mater where you go! No matter what you do! He'll find you and make you pay! Your dead! Your dead!!!" Jubilee screamed getting louder and louder until she was impossibly loud.

Sabrtooth growled bearing his teeth at her like a dog. His anger over ridded him and he quickly forgot his momentary pleasure. Still holding onto her wrists he pulled her forward. Then with all his strength he slammed her into the ground. He quickly let go of her wrists and picked her up by the front of her dress. He back handed her and she went limp. He let her fall to the ground. Sabretooth was still growling. He drew back his hand and brought it down on Jubilee's chest. His claws cut into her chest and blood flew into the air. Sabretooth had let the animal take over him, the man was gone. He slashed Jubilee over and over with his claws.

Finally he was satisfied that enough damage had been down. He stopped and put his hands on either side of her. Sabretooth lent over her a smile on his face, blood soaked him and the ground. Jubilee's body was barely recognisable. Her face was intact but bloody. A bruise lined her check and a small scratch graced her forehead. He was breathing hard. He bent down and kissed her on the lips. Smiling he stood up. "Now that was good. Too bad I can't do it again. Too bad I couldn't finish the first part. Stupid kid." He growled as he walked away. A new smile lit his features as he pictured Logan finding her. He licked blood off a claw.

Logan bolted up in his bed. He was covered in a cold sweat. His brething was hard and jagged. His claws were extended. He closed his eyes and willed himself to clam down. After a few minutes he retracted his claws. He looked around the room bathed in moonlight, it did little to comfort him. It was just a dream Logan. Calm down. He ran a hand down his face. He brushed a feather off his chest. He looked down and saw his bed was full of them. He had ripped his pillow open and he saw claw marks in the mattress. He shook his head not able to shake off the dream.

Logan swung his legs over the side of the bed. He turned on the lamp on the night table. Warm golden light pierced the darkness. He blinked against the light and looked at the clock. Two twenty eight. Well, he was up for the day. There was no way he could get back to sleep anyway. His eyes fell on a picture by the clock. He picked up the picture frame. He smiled down at it. Jubilee was sitting on a fence. Her smiling face set the picture alight. Tears stung his eyes and his heart caught. She's fine. Your just worrying. He told himself. It didn't work. The fear had gipped him and taken hold. He put the photo down and knew what to do.

Jubilee was dead asleep in her room when something woke her up. She was immediately on her guard. Someone was in her room. She pulled herself together moving to jump out of bed. Arms gently grabbed her and pulled her back down. A hand covered her mouth.

"Its me darlin'." Logan whispered in her ear. The tension in her body evaporated. She settled into his arms. She nodded and Logan let go of her mouth. She turned her head to look at him.

"What are you doing here? in the early hours of the morning? In my bed?" She asked with a raised eyebrow.

Logan didn't repress the smile. "Needed to see you. You all right?" He asked, his voice low.

Jubilee nodded. "I'm fine Wolvie. I swear." She leaned fully into him tilting her head on his chest. "You all right?" She asked. He nodded but didn't answer. She held his hand that wrapped around her waist and stroked his arms. "Liar." She said. He wasn't fooling her. He wouldn't be here if he was fine. He wouldn't be looking at her like that if he was fine. He wouldn't be sounding like that if he was fine. And he surely wouldn't be as tense as he was now if he was fine. Ah well. He'll tell her later. She lay in his arms content for the moment and Logan embraced her a bit more tightly. Slowly bit by bit his tension wore away. After an hour he eased away from her and stood up.

"Come on. We'll be late. Get dressed and get a bag packed." He told her.

Jubilee frowned. "Where are we going?" She asked getting off the bed.

"Canada." He said making her bed.

"And why are we going there?" She asked. He didn't answer. "We're not tracking anyone down or anything, are we?" She asked obviously not in the mood.

Logan shook his head. "We're just going to the cabin. It thought it would be nice to get away. Nothing else." He told her.

She nodded. It wasn't like she nedded convincing. Of course she was going. How could she not? She changed while he had his back to her. Jubilee was quickly shoving things into a bag. Logan had sat down on the made bed and was staring out the window. Jubilee was dressed and ready. She stood by the door and smiled at his back.

She made a polite cough. "You can look now. I'm decent and ready to go." Logan smiled at her and walked to the door.

"I love that about you. Your the only female I know that doesn't take forever to get ready." He complimented her.

"And I still look good." She reminded him.

He nodded and opened the door. He slipt out and Jubilee followed him. Jubilee waited until they were outside. "They don't know I'm leaving." She said with a grin.

"They will in the morning. I left a note for Jean and told her I was taking you. She'll call em' and tell em' your with me." He walked over to the Harley and sat down. He handed Jubilee a helmet. She stared at it. "Wear it." He told her.

"You know Wolvie your getting worrisome in your old age." She chided him as she put it on.

"I was old before you were born darlin." He snorted. Jubilee snorted and climbed up behind him. She grasped his waist tightly. "Ready?" He asked her.

"Yep." She chirped. He grinned and revved up the enjine. Then pulled away from the school like a shot. Jubilee squealed in his ear. His grin widened. Logan began to feel better as they drove further down the roads. Moonlight lit his way, Jubilee's comfortable weight and presence behind him. He'd feel better when they were in Canada, in the cabin. It'd be good. He had lost touch with her, it was good to spend some time with her again. Just him and her. And then the nagging thought was there.

Where you can protect her. Your so scared somthin might happen to her. Your so scared because of what you saw in that dream. Your so scared that you'd go over to the school before anyone else got up and take her. Then you'd go the the wilderness of Canada with her. You can't protect her forever. He gunned the engine. The hell he couldn't. He'd protect her with his dyin breath. Nothin was gonna happen to her. He wouldn't let Sabretooth hurt her. He'd make sure of that.
