Promises: Part 2

Seraphim is mine, the story is mine. Jubilee, Wolverine, and Sabretooth belong to Marvel. Sorry this took so long to post, I've been busy. I thought I'd give Jubilee and Logan a fun moment together. The rest of the story should be a doozy. I'm working on the next part at the moment. My e-mail adress is [email protected] E-Mail me!

She floated up her body long forgotten, conscious thought fell away from her as she floated upward. She moved past thoughts, past realities, passed time. She rose with no destination just utter freedom. She was a dance of light and dark. She rose further enjoying the sensation. Then she was being pushed back. She struggled against it and she was racked with pain. She tried to go ahead again but she had lost her footing. She was falling. It was happening too fast, it hurt too much. She was falling. Her body was taking form, quickly throwing itself together. She was remembering. Her consciousness was screaming at her.

She was falling.

She lay crouched on the ground in utter agony. Seraphim didn't make a sound as she suffered. She clenched her eyes shut and rocked back and forth on the balls of her feet. Her hands strained against the cold floor. Her long crimson hair fell into her face. Seraphim made sure not to move her wings, it would set off even more pain. Her wings were much like an angels', except hers were not white. They were a mix of black and crimson. Her feet were bare. Her clothing was black strips of cloth that were wrapped around her body. A band of the same material was laced around her neak. It contrast against her deathly pale skin.

She had gone too far. That sort of peace she desired, needed, was denied her. Perhaps forever. She saw no escape from him. No end to the torment he inflicted on her by keeping her here. To her, and to many others, he was invincible. He was the embodiment of evil. He was everything you feared in the dark. Seraphim took a few shaky breaths. The pain was subsiding to the dull pain that was always there. She knew he was there, she could feel him there. Seraphim tensed and let her consciousness go for a second. Then she drew herself together again. He wasn't there to hurt her. He needed something from her. He was very mad at someone else, it radiated from him.

Seraphim opened her eyes for the first time. She gazed up at Sabretooth. He was pacing the room, he looked disheveled. The expensive suit he wore looked wrong on him. She looked around the room in amazement. It lay in ruins. The runiture lay in splinters around the room. The walls themselves were full of claw marks. She noticed that they were Sabretooth's. Why had he wrecked his own home?

Sabretooth spun on her suddenly holding her with his blue eyes. She didn't move, didn't breath. He took a few long strides until her was right in front of her.

"He's hidin' from me." He growled. Seraphim didn't ask who, she didn't care. "I've looked everywhere and I can't find him. I want you to go to him home and find out where he went off to. Now." He lashed out a hand and grabbed her chin. He raised her up and she had no choice but to follow. She stood shakily and stared at him. "You know where he lives?" He asked. Seraphim reached out again and saw. She nodded best she could with his hand holding her chin. "You go and find out where he went. Then come back her. Now go!" He shoved her back away from him.

Seraphim let go of her body before she even lost her momentum. She faded from Sabretooth's sight at that instant. Even his hightened senses couldn't tell if she was still there. Seraphim quckily left the house. She floated farther and farther away from him. She moved faster and faster. She passed by unaware people, past buildings, and homes.

And then she was there, at him home. It loomed before her and she could tell there were people there. This place was heavily secured, it was a safe place. Well, not safe from her. She passed through the gates and into the house. She floated towards the place that he made his. She felt herself being pulled there. Seraphim moved past a woman with white hair as she went up the stairs. She moved down the hallway and then moved into a room. This was his room, she felt that it was his.

This man Wolverine was like Sabretooth but he was not. He had that side to him but he chose not to follow it. She moved herself through the emotions and thoughts that lingered in the room. She felt quite a few things there but the room was laced with something. Fear. It was so strong she could taste it. She gave herself into it and followed it. It wasn't fear for ones self, it was fear for another. A girl. A small girl with black hair that framed a smiling face. She searched for a name. Jubilee. Then there was love. It was such a fierce soft force. She gave into it, forgetting herself.

The girl. Jubilee. He loved Jubilee. Her small face was smiling up at him. She said something to him. He laughed. Then hands grabbed her and took her away. Oh God! She was gone! He had taken her away. Sabretooth had taken her! He was trying to get her back. It wasn't working. She was gone! She was gone!! He had to protect her. He had to take her. Hide her until she was safe. He had to make her safe. Sabretooth took her, he hurt her! Have to save her. Hide her. She'll be safe in Canada. In the cabin. Nobody was there. No one could hurt her. Safe. Safe in the cabin.

Seraphim wrenched herself away from the rush of emotions. She shook at the intensity of it. She had found what she was sent for. Now all she had to do was get out of here. Even if she had to go back to Sabretooth. She didn't want to think about what he was going to do to Wolverine. She didn't want to think about the girl. She moved quickly out of the house and back to Sabretooth.

Jubilee lent back in the boat and it rocked slightly. Logan who was lying down with his cowboy hat over his face didn't stir. He wasn't asleep, he was just relaxing. He was still holding his fishing pole. She pulled the oversized jacket closer to her, the air was brisk. Her small hands were hidden in the sleeves. She tugged lightly at her fishing line again, still nothing.

"You keep doing that then you won't catch anything." Logan told her from under his hat.

"Well how do I know if I catch anything?" She asked for the sixth time.

"It'll pull by itself. You'll feel it." He told her again. She frowned peering intently at the water. Logan looked out from under his hat. He smiled at the look on her face then replaced his hat.

Jubilee looked around the small lake they had all to themselves and smiled. The sun was just coming up. It was making ripples of gold across the water. The sky was spread out in an array of soft hues. It was nice here. It was worth getting up early and the hike to get here.

They had been in the wilderness of Canada for a little over two months. Logan had borrowed a friend's cabin in the moutains. She honestly had no idea that they would be gone for that long. If she had she would have brought more stuff. Oh well. There was a small town, a really small town, that took a whole day to get to. On the last trip for supplies she had bought some stuff. Like magazines, books, cloths, and such. She didn't know when they would be getting back. She had asked Logan twice and he had gotten angry and distant on both occasions. So she hadn't asked him again. She smiled as she thought what Frost and Cassidy were thinking about this. She wondered if Logan had told Jeanin the note he would be gone this long. Jubilee had begun to wonder if Logan had left a note at all but she quickly dismissed the thought. Logan wouldn't lie to her, even if he had, why would he?

She did like it here though. It was pretty and it was a change of scenery. She also liked spending time with Logan. SHe felt like she was abandoning her studies though. Which expained the books she bought on the last trip. She had actually read them, some of them weren't that bad. She still worked out every day and she had even been letting Logan teach her some of that martial art stuff. Even though she really didn't get into all that. It did make Logan happy so she had gone along with it. He had been acting so odd lately. She had tried to do her usual routine and cheer him up and putting him at ease. It seemed to be working, most of the time.

With a free hand she reached into the half empty bag beside her and took out a marshmallow. She chewed on it thoughtfully. It was quiet here. There were some birds off in the distance flapping and chattering to each other. There was the sound of the water lapping against the boat and the rest was scilence. Everything was so peaceful and restful. It was driving Jubilee out of her mind. She took out another marshmallow and threw it at Logan. It smacked him on the rim of his hat and bounced off into the water. He looked at her.

"So when is this going to get intresting?" She asked. Logan growled lightly and sat up, he should know by now that when Jubes was around he couldn't get any rest.

"It doesn't." He told her.

"You know it would be a whole lot easier to blast the fist out of the water." She told him the corners of her mouth turning up. Then she paused. "If there are fish in this lake."

"There are fish in the lake." He told her.

"How do you know?" She asked him.

"Because it's a lake." He said.

"Maybe this one doesn't have any. Maybe this is a freaky lake." She argued.

"It has fish. There are plenty of fish." He assured her.

Jubilee leaned over the side of the boat and stared into the water. "I don't see any fish Wolvie." She told him.

He gave her a long suffering sigh. "That's because your scarin' them off."

"The fish aren't scared of me." She said indignant.

Logan pointed across the lake. "You see that?" He asked her. Jubilee followed to where he was pointing. "That's where all the fish are." He joked.

Jubilee rolled her eyes. "Wolvie if all the fish are on the other side of the lake, how come we're sitting waaay over here?" She asked. "Why can't we go over there?"

Logan was shaking his head. "Quiet darlin'." He put his finger to his lips.

"Can the fish really hear us or is it a wives tale?" She asked but didn't bother waiting for an answer. "Want a marshmallow?" She asked.

Logan shook his head. "No and I doubt the fist want one either." He told her as she threw a couple in the water.

"Well I can't use those worms for bait. Euchh! So it was either marshmallows or bits of those pink snowballs." She told him as if it were obvious.

Logan shook his head smiling. Jubilee was already on a surgar high. It probably had to do with the half bag of marshmallows she had for breakfast. She was bobbing her pole slightly and nodding her head to something. Logan's grin widened, they probably wouldn't catch one damn fish today.

Suddenly Jubilee's line tugged. It startled Jubilee and she jumped. "Looks like you caught something darlin'."

Jubilee was struggling with it. "Um, how do I get it in here?" She asked.

"Pull it back and up and reel it in. Do it nice and easy so the line doesn't snap."

Jubilee started to pull up when the fish decided it had other ideas. Jubilee who was holding onto the pole for dear life was pulled up out of her seat and started to go over board. Logan grabbed onto her shoulders and pulled her back down. He sat down bracing his feet against the side of the boat. Jubilee sat in between his legs and did the same.

"You didn't let go of the pole. Good job." He told her. Jubilee was still holding onto the pole and Logan was helping her reel it in.

"Maybe this isn't a fish. Maybe its the Lochness's cousin or something." She said as she struggled. The fish lost the fight and Logan hauled it over into the boat. "Wow. How big is that? Told you they liked marshmallows."

"Pretty damn big." He told her getting it ready. "Not bad for your first fish. Now we get to skin it and bone it."

Jubilee paled. "Ugh. In the boat?" She asked.

"No, back at the cabin."

Jubilee was looking at her fish. "Well it looks pretty ugly. Are you sure it'll taste alright?" She asked unsure.

"It will if I cook it." He laughed.

"Hey! No fair of making fun of my bad cooking." She laughed. "Now what?" She asked.

"We'll catch a few more and head back." He told her. Jubilee nodded and cast off again. Logan settled back down. Every now and then he glanced at Jubilee. He was glad they did this. Not just the fishing but the whole trip. He was feeling more at ease than he had in a while.

He was still having that recurring dream with Sabretooth though. He was having it even before that morning he had left with Jubilee for Canada. The dream had come a few times and each time it would be different. It was basicly the same though. Sabretooth got to Jubilee how and he killed her. Each time the panic had set in. It was silly. Sabretooth had threatened Jubilee's life along with a lot of other people's lives. He had said that so he could get Logan to kill him. Sabretooth had not taken up on the threat either. Still, each time he had the dream it was always with Jubilee. It felt real to him. Maybe there was no point to this, he hoped not, but he wasn't ready to leave yet.

Seraphim appeared in the middle of the den. Sabretooth sat in the chair in front of her. He had his face rested against his laced fingers. He didn't seemed surprised at her abrupt entrance.

"Where is he?" He demanded in a low voice.

"Canada." Seraphim said in a small voice. "He borrowed a cabin from a friend in the moutains there." Her voice was normal now. Sabretooth lept up and stalked over to her. He sniffed her leering at her.

"What else? What ain't ya' telling me frail?" He snarled near her ear.

"He took a girl with him. Jubilee. She's the reason he left." She paused not wanting to go on. The look he gave her spoke volumes. "You made a threat towards her. He's worried about it. He's afraid you'll hurt her." She finished lowering her eyes. She hated herself for telling him and she hated him for making her tell him.

Sabretooth laughed crudely. "That runt and his women. I wasn't planning on killin' that frail but if he's that worried about it. Then I had better give him somethin' ta worry about." He stalked off. "A cabin in the moutains of Canada, borrowed from a friend. Shouldn't be too hard ta' find. Pack ya' bags frai we're goin' campin." He left the room laughing.

Seraphim stood alone in the dark room. Her eyes darted around the room. She could already hear Sabretooth on the phone to a contact. It wouldn't be long now. Her vision blured. I'm sorry. She sank to her knees and rocked back and forth. I'm sorry. Tears started to fall down her face. Wolverine I'm sorry. I'm sorry. Jubilee I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
