Friendship Over The Obstacles: Part 4

by Sarah J.

As they left the hotel in pursuit of Creed, Logan couldn't help but notice how edgy Regan was. She was shifting and jumping at every little noise. Not that he couldn't blame her. She knew exactly what they were getting into. Logan couldn't tell her it would be okay, because, frankly, he didn't know.

"She's not gonna be able to ride on my bike," he thought to himself. "gotta find some other way of transportation."

A couple of life threats and broken noses later, he and Regan were headed toward Creed's hideout in a nice, spacious SUV. Logan had tried everything to break Regan's depression, even let her put the radio on those horrible stations that Jubilee liked. But nothing helped. She just sat there, fiddling with the hem of her white tank top and messing with her multi-colored hair, putting it up in a ponytail, taking it down, and running her hand through it nervously.

As Logan sat in the car listening to the horrible boy bands singing about broken hearts and happy days, he began to think of Jubilee. He could almost hear her sitting next to him smacking her bubble gum and singing off-key (terribly) to the music. The thought of Jubilee made his vision blur with tears. Suddenly he felt a small cool hand grab his large shaking hand. He turned his head and looked into Regan's rainbow eyes. She nodded at him and squeezed his hand, and didn't release it until they arrived at Creed's.

Getting out of the car, Logan noticed Regan was actually taking everything well. She surveyed everything with a calm eye, and she stood still, without the slightest movement. She turned around and looked at Logan.

"I can find where Jubilee is, but I have to use my telepathy" she told Logan. In that one sentence, she had just asked for his approval.

Which was something he sure as hell wasn't going to give. "Nah, Darlin', we'll find her without that. Hank said you need to lay off the powers for awhile."

Regan smiled, touched at his kindness and concern for her. This one was a keeper. She held her arm out and grinned. "Shall we?"

Logan bowed and accepted it. "But of course", he replied.

Creed watched the monitor and smiled. They were his. He turned to the little firecracker strapped on his table. "Looks like your friends came after all. Too bad, I was hopin we could have a little more fun time."

Jubilee opened her swollen eyes and looked at him with pure hatred. "Burn in hell, you bastard." she said through a busted mouth.

Creed smiled disgustingly and advanced on Jubilee. "You first, frail."

Regan and Logan were walking through the long corridor that led to the room where Regan and Jubilee had first met when they heard a bloodcurdling scream.

Logan and Jubilee both recognized it. "JUBILEE!!" they screamed in unison.

Logan ran down the hallway, claws extracted. Suddenly, he saw Regan overtake him. He had never seen anyone who could run so fast, except for Creed. Must run in the family, he thought. He increased his speed, knowing that Regan would take him right to Jubilee, if he could keep up.

As Creed adjusted the buttons that sent electronic pulses through Jubilee's brain, he stopped. A familiar scent had filled the room.

"Smells like-" He didn't get to finish. A foot caught him off guard squarely in the chest. As he fell to the ground, he saw Regan do a back flip neatly and run over to Jubilee.

"Well, if it isn't my baby sis" he said, getting up. Roaring loudly, he charged toward them.

Regan, thinking quickly, threw her body over Jubilee's and waited for the blow. When it didn't come, she looked up to see Logan and Creed fighting in a complete rage. They were biting, clawing, snarling. It was as if the beasts in both of them had come out. She went back to cutting the straps that held Jubilee.

When the last strap was cut, Jubilee opened her eyes. "R-Regan? Oh, thank God!!", she cried, hugging her friend. Then she noticed the battle going on behind Regan. Before Regan could stop her, she cried out.

"WOLVIE!!!"

The sound caused Logan to turn around, which was just what Creed wanted. Once Logan's back was turned, he delivered a blow so hard, that even with a healing factor, caused major damage.

"VICTOR! PLEASE DON'T!" Regan cried, tears streaming down her face.

"And why not? Ohh..you don't want me to hurt your new boyfriend, eh?" Creed snarled. "Well, we don't always get what we want!" With that sentence he raised his claws, preparing to give the fatal blow.

As he brought his hand down, it froze in mid-air. Then his hand began to come down to his side, no matter how much he resisted it.

"What the hell?" he muttered. He looked around the room and what he saw made him roar in rage.

Regan was holding her hand up, controlling her brother with her telepathy. "Jubilee, wake Logan up! Hurry, I can't hold him much longer!" she cried, as blood began trickling from her nose.

Jubilee began to hit Logan. "C'mon, Wolvie, wake up...." he was coming around, but not fast enough. She then got an idea. She ran over to the inhibitor Creed had used on her and turned it off. Then she placed her good hand on Logan's chest.

"Ohhh...he's gonna be soo pissed," she moaned. She then paffed him one good one.

It worked. Logan was on his feet in about two seconds. He seemed to have forgotten where he was until he saw Regan. Her eyes were flashing brightly, and her nose was bleeding heavily, but she was still holding her brother up.

"JUBILEE! LOGAN! HIT HIM WITH EVERYTHING YOU'VE GOT!!" She cried.

She didn't have to tell them a second time. Logan charged toward the immoble Creed as Jubilee began to build up the mother of all pafs.

Creed looked over to see the runt charging at him, claws ready for action. Then over his shoulder, he saw the little frail holding something between her hands. Whatever it was, it was glowing and getting bigger in size. He suddenly realized that she was gonna hit him with it and it was gonna hurt. He saw the frail lift her hands up, felt the slicing of the runts claw's, and the last thing he saw was the giant bright light of the fireball headed toward him. Then an explosion, and all was black for Victor Creed.

The explosion rocked the whole building. Logan grabbed Regan and Jubilee and threw himself on them, hoping he could absorb most of the impact. He did absorb all of it...all two hundred pounds of rocks that fell on him. When the dust settled, he lifted himself up and for the first time noticed Jubilee's condition.

She was a mess. Her hair was dirty and matted with blood. Both of her eyes were nearly swollen shut, and her nose was puffy and swollen, probably broken. Her lips were cut in different places and bleeding. Her body was bruised beyond recognition, and her arm hung at her side limply. Probably broken too.

"Well, kid, I wish I could say it's good to see ya, but you look like hell." he smirked at her.

Jubilee grinned weakly, elbowed him in the ribs, then hugged him so tightly he had trouble breathing.

When she pulled away she asked, "How did you find me?"

He answered, "Well, Regan managed..." He then noticed Regan wasn't standing up. She was still lying down on her stomach. He turned her over, and sucked in his breath.

Her face was pale and blood streaked. Her eyes didn't have the vibrant color they normally did, and she was shaking all over.

She looked at him and began to cry. "I'm cold" she said.

"Don't worry, we're leavin right now to get some help." he told her, caressing her cheek gently. "Jubilee! We gotta go now!" He screamed, picking Regan up like a baby, cradling her next to his chest and began to run towards the car, praying they would make it to the mansion in time.

At the mansion, Logan was pacing and muttering in front of the MedLab, sheathing and un-sheathing his claws. He felt a hand on his shoulder and turned around, snarling.

"Jeez, Wolvie...chill out." Jubilee looked at him worried. Her arm was in a cast and her face had been cleaned up. Her nose had been broken, but Hank had fixed it up, and it would be fine.

Logan ran a hand through his hair and sighed. "I just don't know what to do. I feel like I should be able to do something."

Jubilee grabbed his hand. "It's ok, Wolvie. I'm sure she'll be ok. I mean, a little nosebleed never hurt anyone."

Logan turned and stared at her. Jubilee didn't know about Regan's condition. "Darlin', I got something to tell you....'bout Regan."

Jubilee listened to the story, eyes wide. She began to cry. "You mean, she's dying?"

"Yeah, and her usin' her powers on Creed didn't exactly help her situation. Hank said he could probably cure her, but she needed to lay off her powers for a while.." Logan stopped talking when Beast appeared in the doorway.

"Logan, she's asking for you," Hank said. Logan looked at him, and Hank sadly shook his head, as if to asses Regan's condition.

As Logan went into Regan's room, he gasped. She was hooked up to every kind of machine imaginable. Her eyes were opened and lacked their luster. She smiled weakly when she saw him come in.

"Logan," she managed to croak out between dry lips.

"Shh...it's ok, Darlin'. Don't talk" he replied, grabbing her hand and squeezing it.

She smiled and looked into his eyes. "Are you mad that I used my powers?"

Logan smiled and said, "Of course not, Darlin'. You did what you had to do for Jubes."

Regan smiled and looked out the window. "I'm going to die, aren't I?"

Logan nodded. "I'm 'fraid so, Regan"

Tears welled in her rainbow eyes as she sat up and hugged Logan. "I don't want to die. I'm so frightened."

Logan held her and tried to comfort her. Regan pulled away from him and looked him in the eyes. She leaned toward him and kissed him.

Logan kissed her for what seemed like forever until he heard someone in the doorway. He looked up to see Jubilee standing in the doorway.

"R-Regan? I just wanted to say....thank y-you..." Jubilee's body was raking with sobs. She looked at Regan and began to scream. "NO, I'M NOT! WHY DID YOU USE YOUR POWERS?!? HOW COULD YOU BE SO IRRESPONSIBLE? HOW-" She couldn't finish. She fell on the floor and began to cry hysterically.

Logan picked her up and carried her over to Regan. Jubilee looked at Regan and hugged her so tightly, Logan almost pulled her off.

"I'm sorry, it's all my fault..." Jubilee cried.

"Shhh...no, it's not..." Regan replied, stroking Jubilee's hair.

Logan sat in the rocking chair and watched the two women he held dearest in his life comfort each other. Regan laid her head on the pillow, smiled, blew a kiss at Logan and Jubilee, then closed her eyes.

Logan listened to her flatline with tears running down his cheeks. Jubilee climbed up in his lap and they cried together. Logan closed his eyes until he heard Jubilee's voice.

"W-Wolvie....Look"

Logan opened his eyes and looked out the window and smiled. Over the lake stretched a beautiful rainbow.

As Logan looked at the rainbow and thought of Regan's eyes, he heard something.

"Stop cryin' you big baby." It was Regan.

Logan's head shot up and so did Jubilee's.

"Did you hear-" They both said. Jubilee then grabbed his hand and they sat there, watching the rainbow and knowing, that somewhere over that rainbow, a girl with rainbow eyes and hair was waiting for them and watching them with love in her eyes.

THE END

Well...that's it...whatcha think? Let me know, please.
