Smallville
I
Drive The Car by Dyce
Dyce is probably best known for her stories set in the Marvel Universe
- indeed, I was surprised to discover that she had written a 'Smallville'
story. Surprised - but absolutely delighted. This story shines as a
sweet, fun adventure in which Chloe - hot on the trail of a story, enlists
Lex to act as her partner-in-crime - or as Dyce puts it, one of Chloe's
'Useful Guys'. Highly recommended.
You'd
Better Not Go Down To The Woods Today by Dyce
This is the sequel to 'I Drive The Car', and it is just as funny, warm,
and engrossing as its predecessor. I don't like repeating myself, so
just trust me when I say to read it - or else.
Runaway
Trains at 3 A.M. by Christina K
I am one lucky, lucky girl. You wanna know why? Because I stumbled upon
Christina K, and her wonderful storytelling. If you are a fan of Smallville
and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, then this is the deal for you.
More bang for your fan-fic buck, and if you disagree with me after reading
'Runaway Trains' and its sequel 'Lines
of Communication', then I know a big ol' hole in the sand you can
stick your head in.
Firefly
Babysitter
by Dex
The premise of the story is simple: Mal is forced to babysit River.
Dex, however, has a way of turning simple into delightfully complex--and
as always, does so brilliantly.
So
Long by Kate Elizabeth
'So Long' is a delicate 'what if' that focuses on the sweet, somewhat
tender, relationship between Mal and Kaylee. Absolutely lovely.

ExoSquad
Mars
and Venus by Moon
About the only thing I remember from Exosquad (besides the cool body
armor) is the romantic interplay between the human Nara and her colleague-in-arms,
the Neo-Sapian Marsala. Now, I'm a sucker for romance, especially romance
that is forbidden, either by cultural, societal, or racial prejudices.
There is always something inspirational about two people who rise above
the odds. Well, that doesn't happen here, although there's no lack of
love. Moon does a fabulous job of explaining Marsala's thoughts as he
leaves Nara, creating a touching, emotional story about a man who does
what he thinks is best, even if it breaks two hearts.
Beauty
and the Beast: The Television Series
Bonding
by BeElleGee
Beauty and the Beast was one of the best television series of the 80's,
deeply romantic and poetic. Of course, it was a bloody shame the producers
were too afraid of bestiality to let the main characters do much more
than hug on-screen, but hey - delicate restraint can do wonders for
the romance factor. 'Bonding' takes place right after Catherine's assault,
and is a rare look into what might have occurred in those days Catherine
began to heal under Vincent's tender ministrations.
All
Through the Night by Merlin Missy
Some crossovers are crazy - this one is crazy good. It has everything:
X-Files, Gargoyles, Batman: Animated Series, Beauty and the Beast, and...well,
I think that's it. Throw in 'Forever Knight' and 'Highlander' and we
would have a real genre explosion on our hands. Yet somehow, Missy manages
all of these disparate universes, turning them into a story to feast
on. Enjoy, and hold on tight.
Gargoyles
Fortune
and Men's Eyes by Merlin Missy
*Thunk* Yup, that's the sound of an epic hitting the kitchen table.
What Missy has done here is nothing short of miraculous--she has taken
the Gargoyles universe and made it into a living, breathing world filled
with love, hate, sacrifice, and magic. The entire series will take time
to read, but is well worth it.
All
the Years Gone By by Leva
'All the Years Gone By' takes place 30 years after Elisa's fateful fall
off the "castle in the clouds", and is a wonderful look at
a future that is both hopeful and dangerous. A must-read for all Gargoyles
fans.
DC Heroes
Some
Days by Constance Eilonwy
It's a wonderful thing when authors can make you fall in love with a
character you've never really paid attention to. Take Nightwing, for
instance. After reading 'Some Days', I actually went out and picked
up the comic - and I may actually stick with it. Dick Grayson, watch
out!
Firefly
Apple,
Apple by Syn
Personally, I think it is a travesty that 'Firefly' hasn't gotten the
viewership it deserves. It is one of the most brilliant shows on television.
Lucky for us, we've got fan-fic writers who are just as talented. In
this little gem, River forgives Jayne his missteps in a very memorable
way.
Alias
Rules
of Engagement by Bella
This story is still unfinished, but it's a whale of a good time. Bella
knows these characters by heart, and she twists the 'Alias' universe
to produce a satisfying chain of events that slowly, surely, brings
Sydney and Vaughn together. If you're not in the mood for dark and despressing,
this one is for you.
X-Men:
The Movie
The
Godless Among Them by Dyce
Dyce really is one of the most talented fan-fic writers out there. She
has the rare ability to skip from horrific to hilarious, turning the
most dangerous, reviled characters of the X-Men universe into interesting
people you actually care about. 'Godless' is the first in a trilogy
that introduces a new student to Xavier's, and will leave you anxious
for more (the sequel is Slavery,
Deliverance, and Faith, followed by The
Land of Blood and Honey).
X-Men:
Comic Universe
Home
from the Hill by Ramos
I could gush for hours about good this story is. Truly, it is beyond
fantastic.
Read it. Read all of Ramos's work - you cannot ever go wrong with her.

Smallville
Surprise,
Surprise by Lucy Mars
I was supposed to be studying for a final - actually, I'm still supposed
to be studying - but somehow, I got caught up in this touching, and
realistic take on Lex and Chloe. A beautiful story, with frequent injections
of wry humor that will set you laughing your ass off.
Reasons
Unknown by Perri Smith
Friendship can blossom under the most unusual circumstances - like when
you've been kidnapped, hit over the head, and locked in a cold room
with a bald billonaire who is desperately trying to save your life.
This is great story, but I don't expect anything less from Perri.
DC Superheroes
In
Darkest Light
by Meljean Brook
Wow. I read this story some time ago, and it still amazes me. It's a
Batman/Wonder Woman story that starts off with a bang (quite literally)
and does not let up for a second. Gorgeous, imaginative...a must read.
X-Men
Two
Pair by L.M. Griffin
This story is so much fun on so many different levels, that if you don't
get swept up by the friendship and romance painted between Jubilee and
Gambit, I'll eat my site!
Pitch
Black: The Movie
The
Faithful by Jules
The first story in a trilogy that focuses on what happened to our three
darling survivors after the events of 'Pitch Black'. This is fantastic
-- gritty and realistic, with enough emotion, heart, and tension to
set your toes on fire. And if any of you fools haven't seen 'Pitch Black',
what are you waiting for? Sheesh.
Gargoyles
Daddy's
Girl by Christi Smith Hayden
I read this story a long time ago, and I quickly became addicted to
the series. If you are a fan of Gargoyles, this is the story for you.
Especally if you're from Texas.
